The Dacron 5.5 is a go to model for cruising, easy set up, and versatility. The stock package Dacron 5.5 frame includes fiberglass composite front tubes with EVA coated aluminum Y tubes, an aluminum X tube, and an aluminum boom. (The 5.5 can be used in combination with the carbon fiber frame option for lighter weight, less flex, and a quicker feel.)
The Dacron 5.5 sail is constructed from 3 oz. Dacron with Cordura chaffe patches.
The Dacron sail can be stowed on the frame. This is great on windy days, or for quick sessions with minimal set up time.
Combined with the stiff and light weight carbon front tube upgrade, the Dacron 5.5 can be tuned through the greatest range of any of the 5.5 sails with less wrinkle distortion. The 5.5 Dacron has a re enforced window similar to the scrim sails which is designed to be more durable and less prone to damage.
Full batten sets are available
The 5.5 Dacron retains the full luff curve the same as the old mono film versions of the sail sold years back by the company in Finland. We think the Dacron version of the sail is a more versatile sail than the equivalent mono film sail. The Dacron sail is lighter, it can be stowed on the frame, and the fabric tunes through a wider range of shape without as much wrinkle distortion as a film sail.
Options include carbon Y tubes and a carbon boom available through the Kitewing shop.
Folks who seek to jump or stunt with the Dacron 5.5 should use a re enforced X tube.
